Affiliate disclosure

The short version

Totlon takes part in affiliate programmes. If you click certain links on this site and then buy something, we may receive a commission from the retailer. It costs you nothing extra — the price is the same whether you use our link or go direct.

How affiliate links work

An affiliate link contains a code identifying Totlon as the source of the visit. If you buy within the retailer’s tracking window, they pay us a percentage. We are never told who you are — retailers report sales in aggregate, not by customer.

Not every outbound link is an affiliate link. Links to sources, research and other publications carry no commercial relationship at all.

What commission does not buy

• A score. Ratings are set before anyone looks at commission rates.
• A place in a ranking or a “best of” list.
• Editorial coverage.
• Removal of criticism.
• Advance sight of a review.

Where a product we rate highly has no affiliate programme at all, we still recommend it, and we still link to it.

How we label links

We disclose at the top of any page containing affiliate links, beside the link itself on buttons and product boxes, and in the footer of every page. Affiliate links carry rel="nofollow sponsored" so search engines can identify them as commercial.

Advertising and sponsorship

Separately from affiliate links, Totlon may carry display advertising and clearly-labelled sponsored content. Sponsored material is always marked as such and is never presented as editorial.
